Hildelies Balk – Pennington de Jongh von der\u00a0der\u00a0Koninklijke Bibliotheek, der Nationalbibliothek der Niederlande, stellte das Projekt IMPACT vor, welches sie auch leitet.<\/p>\n
Zun\u00e4chst erl\u00e4uterte\u00a0Frau Balk – Pennington de Jongh spezifische Herausforderungen f\u00fcr die OCR-Anwendung an Digitalisaten alter Drucke, wie Verwerfungen im Papier, Durchscheinen, Fraktur-Schrift, handschriftliche Notizen, schwieriges Layout und\u00a0sich im Laufe der Zeit \u00e4ndernde Orthographie. Anschlie\u00dfend\u00a0skizzierte sie\u00a0das EU-gef\u00f6rderte Projekt IMPACT \u2013 IMProving ACcess to Text -, das 2008 unter der Federf\u00fchrung der Nationalbibliothek der Niederlande initiiert wurde und inzwischen 26 Institutionen umfasst.<\/p>\n
Ziel des Projekts ist es, die Digitalisierung historischer Drucke durch\u00a0optimierte OCR-Texterkennung und Sprachsoftware ma\u00dfgeblich zu verbessern und Digitalisierungs- und Texterkennungs-Kompetenz \u00fcber ganz Europa hinweg zu schaffen und zu verbreiten.<\/p>\n
Unter anderem konnte im Projektrahmen Vorverarbeitung von Bildern, sowie die Erkennung von Seitenstrukturen, Frakturschriften und historischen Schreibvarianten verbessert werden, indem u.a. auf historische Texte zugeschnittene W\u00f6rterb\u00fccher entwickelt wurden. Dennoch besteht weiterhin Optimierungsbedarf.<\/p>\n
Um die Ergebnisse von IMPACT auch \u00fcber die Projektlaufzeit hinaus\u00a0nutzen zu k\u00f6nnen, wird ein Kompetenzzentrum geschaffen, welches im Zuge der Abschlusskonferenz in London (24. und 25. Oktober 2011)\u00a0 er\u00f6ffnet werden wird.<\/p>\n
