{"id":2603,"date":"2015-05-13T14:24:38","date_gmt":"2015-05-13T12:24:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/digitisation.eu\/blog\/?p=2603"},"modified":"2015-05-13T14:24:38","modified_gmt":"2015-05-13T12:24:38","slug":"kick-workshop-impact-opf-mooc-digitisation-digital-preservation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/digitisation.eu\/?p=2603","title":{"rendered":"Kick-off workshop of the IMPACT-OPF MOOC on digitisation and digital preservation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/digitisation.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Impact Centre of Competence<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/openpreservation.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Open Preservation foundation<\/a> has organized the &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/1HcraeG\">Kick-off workshop of the IMPACT-OPF MOOC on digitisation and digital preservation&#8217;<\/a>, that will take place September, 18th, in Poznan (Poland) during the <a href=\"http:\/\/tpdl2015.info\/\" target=\"_blank\">9th International Conference on Theory and Practice of Digital Libraries<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><b>Motivation<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The need for specific training on the multiple facets of digitisation and digital preservation technology is a common concern at cultural heritage institutions. As a response, the I<a href=\"https:\/\/digitisation.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\">mpact Centre of Competence <\/a>and the<a href=\"http:\/\/openpreservation.org\/\" target=\"_blank\"> Open Preservation Foundation<\/a> promote the organisation of a high-quality MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) on digitisation and digital preservation.<\/p>\n<section id=\"content\" role=\"main\">\n<div id=\"post-311\">\n<div>\n<h3><b>Objective<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>The purpose of this hands-on workshop is \u00a0to launch the creation of the online course by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Identifying the training needs and the available expertise in this domain.<\/li>\n<li>Defining the competences provided by the course and the procedures that will be applied to evaluate them.<\/li>\n<li>Building the basic structure of the course (units and lessons).<\/li>\n<li>Coordinating responsibilities for the creation of content.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b> Participants profile<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Stakeholders willing to contribute actively to the definition and implementation of a MOOC on digitisation and digital preservation, \u00a0for example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Experts in the implementation of digitisation and digital preservation workflows.<\/li>\n<li>Tool providers, companies and researchers producing hardware\/software for digitisation and digital preservation.<\/li>\n<li>Librarians, archivists and, in general, \u00a0personnel at cultural heritage institutions working in digitisation departments or involved in the management of digitisation and digital preservation programmes.<\/li>\n<li>Researchers and publishers creating digital editions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Registered participants are requested to <a href=\"mailto:digmooc@man.poznan.pl\"><b>submit an e-mail <\/b><\/a>introducing their expertise and the subject or subjects they could contribute to, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Long-term preservation of digitised content<\/li>\n<li>Digital capture, image processing and enhancement<\/li>\n<li>Digital edition, publication and access<\/li>\n<li>Quality assurance<\/li>\n<li>Life-cycle of digitised content and management procedures<\/li>\n<li>Data and metadata standards<\/li>\n<li>Rights management<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b> Description of the workshop<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>An expert in the creation of MOOCs will present a success story in the implementation of online training courses and will describe the key ingredients for a wide impact course:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Technology and learning platform.<\/li>\n<li>Content preparation and pedagogical approach.<\/li>\n<li>Management of the course.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Plenary sessions will elaborate on the application of these ideas to the particular case of digitisation and digital preservation. The preliminary schedule for the sessions is the following:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>General plan (target public, needs addressed, value proposition, unique features, managerial structure, impact measures, dissemination &amp; communication channels).<\/li>\n<li>Title, objectives, and competences covered.<\/li>\n<li>Evaluation procedures (for competences).<\/li>\n<li>Syllabus (contents and structure).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>As a result, the participants will create a blueprint for the online training course, including a pilot lesson to be produced within 3-4 weeks after the workshop.<\/p>\n<h3><b> Organisation committee<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Rafael C.
