In 2016, the Instituut voor Nederlandse Lexicologie (Institute for Dutch Lexicology) is transformed into a renewed institute with a broader mission: the Instituut voor de Nederlandse Taal (Dutch Language Institute). Anyone who wants to know anything about the Dutch language through the centuries will find their answer at the Instituut voor de Nederlandse Taal.
The institute was officially opened on 12 and 13 October 2016 with an open day in Leiden and an academic session in Ghent at the Koninklijke Academie voor
Nederlandse Taal- en Letterkunde (Royal Academy of Dutch Language and Literature).
The Instituut voor de Nederlandse Taal is to take a central position in the Dutch-speaking world as a developer, keeper and distributor of sustainable language resources, using reliable scholarly methods. It will be responsible for the creating, archiving and maintaining of Dutch corpora, lexicons, dictionaries and grammars, thereby providing the necessary building blocks for the study of the Dutch language.
