Established in December 2012, the IMPACT Centre of Competence in Digitisation will celebrate its 10th Birthday on 12th December 2022. With its foundation in the European-funded IMProving ACcess to Text project (2008-2012) and strengthened through the SUCCEED project (2013-2014).While IMPACT’s original vision of “making digitisation: better, faster and cheaper”, still holds true, a key challenge is how to integrate state-of-the-art digitisation research into day-to-day digitisation practices and operations. As we reach our 10th Anniversary, now is the ideal opportunity to review our achievements of the past and make plans for the future.
The aim of the IMPACT 10th Birthday Workshop and Writing Sprint is to document the key themes and challenges for the international digitisation community as well pave the way for establishing a common interdisciplinary research agenda for cultural heritage; digital humanities; computer and data science, applied to the field of digitisation. Building on our IMPACT Action Plan 2022, which outlines the crucial role that the Centre of Competence has to play in the digitisation landscape, the workshop will bring together key members from the IMPACT Community, alongside a range of experts and interested parties who are active in the international digitisation community.
The output of the workshop will be an IMPACT 10th Anniversary White Paper, provisionally entitled: Sharing and Sustaining Digitisation Knowledge. It is expected to explore a number of key themes such as: Digitisation Quality and Standards; Datafication of Digitised Cultural Heritage; Digitisation Workflows and Tools and Digitisation Community Management.
The IMPACT 10th Birthday Workshop and Writing Sprint will take place from 12th-14th December 2022 at the University of Alicante, Spain. Participation in the workshop is free of charge and based on by invitation only.
